In 20…, Samantha Rajapaksa and Sujeewa Karunasekera conceptualised the idea of forming an OBA group comprising Anandians who were in the Advanced Level classes at Ananda College during its Centenary year. Lalith Perera later joined the discussions, representing the 1988 batch.

The group brought together three batches: the classes of 1986, 1987, and 1988. The inaugural meeting of the Centenary Group was held at the Kularatne Hall and witnessed a record attendance of over 600 members, at which Life and Annual membership categories were introduced.

The meeting was graced by the presence of the Maha Sangha, the Principal of Ananda College, the President of the Old Boys’ Association of Ananda College, and other OBA officials. The members present unanimously elected Samantha Rajapaksa as the first President, Sujeewa Karunasekera as the first Secretary, and Lalith Perera as the first Treasurer of the Group.
